51 Harold and Kumar go to White Castle(2004)

My Thoughts: I’ve seen Jay and Silent Bob a billion times and I’ve seen Up in Smoke a bunch of times too so I figured I’d check out one of the other stoner duos on the sacred holiday of 4/20. It was a fun typical stoner adventure movie with raunchy humor with some jokes that probably wouldn’t fly as well in today’s culture but I thought it was a lot of fun. There were some fun cameos and small roles from Neil Patrick Harris as a super-straight drugged-up party animal version of himself, Christopher Meloni is unrecognizable as Freakshow and Malin Ackerman was really hot. Overall, it’s just a fun prototypical “stoners go to blank” movie but it’s one of the better ones that knows when not to go overboard.

52 Dope(2015)

My Thoughts: Dope was a modern coming of age story with a hood and hip-hop twist. It’s all about a 90s hip-hop geek and his two best friends getting caught up in some criminal shit that they had no intention of being being a part of. I thought the movie was visually appealing, I didn’t see any flaws in the writing and I liked the soundtrack quite a bit. Shameik Moore was great as Malcolm. He came across as endearing, relatable and authentic. I thought the dynamic between he and his two best friends felt real and fun. Lakeith Stanfield was good in his small role, it was a pleasant surprise. He’s one of my favorite actors around right now. A$AP Rocky was surprisingly good in his small role as Dom, I’ve never seen him act before so I didn’t expect much but he pulled it off. Zoe Kravitz was real good too, I thought her character could’ve been expanded on a bit considering her importance to Malcolm but it’s a minor complaint and I’m probably a bit biased because I just want to see more of her in general. Overall, Dope was a fun watch and I’d love to watch it again.

The Borderlands
Follows a team of Vatican investigators sent to the British West Country to investigate reports of paranormal activity at a remote church.
Review:
Very interesting horror. Slowly builds to a fascinating ending and one that left me very confused, but I like to be confused after a movie and try to work it all out.

Oculus
A woman tries to exonerate her brother, who was convicted of murder, by proving that the crime was committed by a supernatural phenomenon.
Review:
Talking about being confused after a movie, I was confused for 80% of this movie. Despite this, I appreciate it for breaking away from typical cliche horrors and it was quite a smart idea. But I think it tried to be too smart and took a bit of the enjoyment out of it.

When the Davison family comes under attack during their wedding anniversary getaway, the gang of mysterious killers soon learns that one of victims harbors a secret talent for fighting back.
Review:
Good idea for a horror, very enjoyable but became quite cliched towards the end and a bit silly. Overall, better than most recent horrors.

Mrs Brown's Boys D'Movie
A company tries to shut down Mrs Brown's fruit and veg stall. They can feck off.
Review:
Really wasn't up for seeing this at all, but my friends wanted to see what it was like. I decided to give it a shot, expecting it to be the worst movie I will have ever seen.
It isn't the worst movie I've ever seen, but it's still awful. It's very popular here in Ireland and therefore most of the jokes would only land well with people from Ireland. For me, they were what made the movie funny at certain scenes. So to people not familiar with Irish humour, it would be very dull I reckon.

Four months after the death of her husband, a woman on the brink of motherhood is tormented in her home by a strange woman who wants her unborn baby.
Review:
My friend introduced this movie to me, saying it was very grotesque and hard to watch at times. I can see what he means, but it takes a lot to make me want to look away.
There are some very gory scenes in this, but it honestly wasn't too bad for me. It's a decent horror that relies on the shock factor I think, as the plot is quite thin.

Transformers: Age of Extinction
A mechanic and his family join the Autobots as they are targeted by a bounty hunter from another world.
Review:
I am not a fan of Transformers at all. I watched the first one a couple of years ago and I thought it was average at best. I've heard people saying that the next two sequels were terrible, but obviously I wasn't going to go near them anyway.
So then this one comes about, with Mark Wahlberg as the lead and I'm thinking maybe this is the one that is actually reasonably good.
Nope.
For Michael Bay, explosions = entertainment. The more explosions, the more entertainment. It takes about 2 minutes into the movie for the first explosion. Seriously. Obviously I don't mind things blowing up in movies, but when it's happening nearly every scene for no reason whatsoever, it gets really annoying.
I hate the Transformers movies and how much money they make. It means in 2034, we will probably have Transformers 17: More Explosions and some robots doing stuff.
I hate to say it though, I wasn't bored during the movie, because it looks good. I can't give a movie a high rating for just looking good.

Review:
I absolutely love this movie. I knew before I watched it, that a lot of the reviews were mixed. You either love it or hate it.
It looks absolutely amazing, it also had an interesting story and great acting. The soundtrack is good and fits perfectly with the tone of the movie.
I'll admit, when it was over, I didn't fully understand it. I had to some research and found a video where it was all explained and it all became so clear. When I fully understood it, I appreciated it even more.
40% on Rotten Tomatoes baffles me.

Review:
I saw a clip of the movie somewhere on Reddit and it made me laugh, so why not watch the fully thing.
I loved this movie. I thought most scenes in it were hilarious and while the story isn't amazing, you can't expect much plot-wise from a film like this. It's made for laughs. The story flowed well enough to keep me watching for the laughs.
Looking forward to watching the sequels.

Review:
As a fan of the Jackass movies, I had planned on watching this for quite a while. It's quite similar to my review of Harold & Kumar. A decent plot that is supported by good laughs which make for a very good movie. Had me laughing a good bit of the movie.
