One insomnia filled night, about 6 years ago, I stumbled on a movie ambiguously titled "Charlie Countryman" as I scrolled through Netflix looking for anything that stood out. The cover featured the title character (Shia LaBeouf) and it instantly caught my attention as he was at the time one of my favorite actors and I had not heard of the movie. For the next hour and a half, I was literally riveted to my laptop screen and was blown away by the setting, the acting, and quickly developing plot. I showed it to my Fiancee (girlfriend at the time) when we got together a couple years later and it became "our" movie that we watch semi-regularly.

Story: A romance/action/comedy smashup that features Charlie, after dealing with the loss of a loved one, flying off to Romania. Once there, he meets a local Romanian musician with a dark history who he immediately falls in love with, and then is faced with the consequences of having a relationship with her. Many of the scenes are intensely personal with tremendous dialogue and are broken up by short bursts of action.

Cast: This was simply Shia Labeouf at his absolute best. He had graduated from the silliness of Transformers and took on this much more serious role head-on. In the movie, his character deals with the loss of a family member, falling in love with a woman who he had no business pursuing, and faces the violent repercussions of going after this love interest. His character arc is really good, and is complemented well by Evan Rachel Wood's character (Gabby). She is the focal point that the story is wrapped around, and she is flawless throughout the movie. Mads Mikkelsen plays the antagonist of the movie, and he plays it just as well as he did Le Chiffre in Casino Royale.

Setting: This is in my opinion the real strength of this movie. Set in Bucharest (not Budapest) director Fredrik Bond does a stellar job showing a city that few have ever seen or many have probably never heard of. As Gabby is from Bucharest, Charlie (and the viewer) is treated to a local's perspective and we get some pretty awesome shots throughout the city.

Originally this was a comment on another post, but it didnt get any traction. If there are any other places you would like to add, please do, include a brief description and what you like to get.
I live in Detroit, i would say it is decent if u dont mind a few rough edges. Good entertainment, several theaters, concert venues and casinos. Great food on the cheap, i recommend Greendot(on weekdays), Mudgies, Russel street deli, Slows, Mercury Bar, The Bronx, Harmonie Garden, Bucharest grill.
Greendot (edge of corktown) is one of the best, they mostly have sliders or small burgesandwiches, all for $2-4, Fries, salads & $3 on almost all drinks, great draft michigan microbrews too. They do not take reservations and if you try to go on a friday/saturday you must expect at least an hour wait.
Mudgies (corktown) is good for soup/sandwiches, i usually go there if somewhere else is too busy or closed, still very good.
Russel street has the best turkey club ive ever had, unfortunately they close at 3.
Slows (corktown) is somewhat of a legend (BBQ place). Their sandwich the yardbird won some contest for 3rd best sandwich in America. I eat there maybe once per year. You may need to prepare yourself mentally for what you are about to do to your body.
Mercury bar (also corktown), across the street from slows, good place if you cannot make the commitment to eat at slows. Good burgers (i always order the local) They have some great poutine fries (great by americas' standards) & milkshakes too.
The Bronx (midtown) is more of a bar than restaurant, still good food, has a pool table, also very loud.
Harmonie garden (midtown) is some quality inexpensive Arab food. I probably eat here as much as everywhere else combined. ive never had anything bad here, but i usually go with the vegetarian special or chicken shwarma sandwich, Occasionally they have this drink called Ginseng up, Ginger beer i get it every time they have it.
Last is Bucharest (downtown), good food & bar. Ive only been there twice, but the shwarma was choice, more seasoned/expensive meat than harmonie garden, but as a whole, is equivalent. Also is a bar.
