Well, you can go it solo but you can't play it in a solo offline world. It has to be on a server. If you wanted, the closest you could come is buying a server, putting a password lock and then you could be good. However that route gets the server taken out of the hive so your character wouldn't transfer. Also why would you want to play dayz offline? the zombies are at this poitn to easy as it is. you either sneak or you run. But zombies are no problem. Players and scriptkiddies those are the problems. If you want the weapons, start a LAN game, use the mission editor, add in weapons crates and ammo. Although I can switch Steam to offline quite easily, Dayz still is asking me to connect to a server. I read quite a few post saying "yes you can" and some other saying "no you can't". However, even in the "yes you can" posts there was no actual description on *how* to run Dayz in offline / single player mode. Any help would be highly appreciated. However, DayZ is designed to be multiplayer, and thusly there is no option to play offline. However, you would quickly realize that even if there was such an option, the game would be tediously boring. The zombies are no challenge and are way too few in general to be of any gameplay value what so ever. A simple way to keep them separate is to copy your entire DayZ folder and use one for offline and one for multiplayer like in this video. The instructions to install from that video did not work for me, but the instructions included in the download did. However using the video's idea to make a seperate DayZ game copy for offline is IMO a good idea.
