Am I crazy or does Chicago have the best offer for James Harden and a reason to do it?

Two years ago we had the pleasure of watching one of the worst stretches of basketball for one of the NBA’s most lucrative and storied franchises come to an end. Ownership played the long game; their front office made a mixed bag of good and bad decisions on draft day, in free agency, and in the trade market. They watched the league market correct their respective front offices for trying to reach around or shortcut their way to playoff basketball leading to the decision to blow it up and focus on their youth. Their brass sold their fan base on watching a nucleus of young talent with distinct but interlocking skills grow together and learn how to play consistently winning basketball. The fans watched promising homegrown talent leave the team and then make all star game(s) for other teams but continue to be moved after those same all star appearances with fans faithful to those specific players carrying the hope that they found their home by now. Regardless, the question is now in front of Chicago’s front office as it was in front of the Lakers’ front office 2 years prior. A top 5 player isn’t on the market every day. We have a promising young core, but do we compromise it to put ourselves on this superstar’s timetable?
The 2 situations are not identical and I don’t want to act as though they are, but the question is the question. Chicago is quietly sitting at the poker table with a good amount of chips: young promising players at all 5 positions(Coby White, LaVine, Patrick Williams, Lauri, WCJ), and no one expects you to trade all 5 by any means. But what could/would a Chicago package for Harden look like?

Hypothetical offer:

Houston Gets: Zach LaVine, Lauri Markkanen, Cristiano Felicio, unprotected firsts in 2022 & 2024, the better of CHI or HOU’s 1st round draft picks for 2021, 2023, 2025, and a top-10 protected pick in 2027
Chicago gets: James Harden, Bruno Caboclo, the worst of either CHI or HOU’s first round draft picks in 2021, 2023, and 2025
1.) Zach LaVine, undoubtedly would have to be in the deal. The 2 best players in this deal play the same position, have mostly the same strengths and weaknesses (different ways of specifically expressing them, but at the end of the day mark a good amount of the same stats offensively), but are on either side of 30. Zach LaVine I’d say is one of the 10-15 best scorers in the NBA. He’s raised his scoring averages each of his first 6 years in the league, flies through the air in transition, and all the tape you watch of him makes you want to believe he’s an all-star caliber guy, but there’s one glaring reality holding him back from that echelon of the NBA. He’s entering his 7th season and he has yet to play .500 basketball or appear in the playoffs. The talent is unquestionable, the athleticism eye popping, but his negatives are unavoidable.
2.) Lauri Markkanen was once one of the NBA’s 10 most envied prospects. With length, range, touch, athleticism, and European heritage the Dirk comparisons were inevitable and unfair from the beginning but still tantalizing nonetheless. Athleticism and shooting are always at premiums in this league and Markkanen possesses both. With a spotty Games Played log and a lack of trust in his body on display at times in his third season his trade value is murky and for all anyone knows he could end up like Rubio, a young euro prospect dripping with potential never getting to fully realize it due to injury. However one of the best things for the rehabilitation of Rubio’s career and perception was ultimately making his way to a better team with better coaching, getting to display his consistency for a playoff team, and just getting to be a guy instead of the guy.
3.) Cristiano Felicio is only in the deal realistically to serve as filler to get CHI in range to take on Harden’s contract, but with the dearth of bigs on Houston’s roster it’s not unheard of for Felicio to get run as an 11th man if Boogie and/or Wood find themselves in foul trouble.
Why the Rockets do it: Houston has built a brand over the last decade and a half as one of the West’s most consistently quality franchises. One franchise has made the NBA playoffs every season since the 2012-13 season and that franchise is the Houston Rockets. While it can be argued it’s exclusively attributable to their defining superstar James Harden and his uncanny durability, once upon a time before Harden donned a Houston uniform the McGrady-less (and eventually Yao-less) rockets took the eventual champion Lakers to 7 games before exiting that series as they ran out of gas against Kobe, Pau, Odom, and co. And they did it with a lovable cast of misfit toys like Chuck Hayes, Carl Landry, Shane Battier, Aaron Brooks, Metta World Peace, and Kyle Lowry. The Rockets as much as they led the way for the league’s recent love affair with analytics also sport a track record that speaks to the appeal of being consistently competitive. They didn’t need to tank for McGrady, they didn’t need to tank for Harden, and transitioning into a team with a mix of veterans with chips on their shoulders (John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins), young guys hungry to win (LaVine, Lauri, Christian Wood), and 3nD role players could be a lot more manageable and lovable group for first time head coach Stephen Silas. This package is also the most comprehensive out there for Harden right now. An AD or Holiday level return doesn’t seem to be materializing in the market right now, and the 2 media front runners for Harden (Philly and Brooklyn) don’t have a package with both a high level player and ancillary assets to make up the difference between the hypothetical 50-60 cents and the dollar that is Harden.
Why Chicago does it: First things first, the team that gets the best player typically wins a trade, and a trade without Wendell Carter Jr. or Coby White is also a win for the front office. A franchise with the youngest MVP ever, the GOAT, and the team that developed current NBA sweetheart Jimmy Butler is in their worst performance as a franchise since Jay Williams’ career was cut short. Harden on his own is a top-7 offense and a 45 win team, but some of the complementary pieces not in the trade offer could add up to be some of the best tailored supporting cast of Harden’s career. Coby White shows more promise as a heat check and off ball guard than the lead ball handler of an nba offense. With a season average of less than 3 assists his rookie year juxtaposed against 43% 3 point shooter and presence as a big-bodied guard, White poses a very interesting offensive (and defensive as a switchable perimeter defender) fit next to Harden. Wendell Carter and the other wings that Chicago has should be able to fill in the gaps on defense.
Personal opinion:
It’s ballsy of Chicago because if Harden doesn’t like how Chicago handles him when they get him he’s currently only able to be kept under contract for another 2 years, but if Harden has patience it could be a very savvy move into an easier path to a title. The floor of a Harden Bulls team would be the 4-6 seed in the East, and Harden would have to give up the least as a player going to Chicago versus Philly or Brooklyn. The championship conversation label wouldn’t immediately be there like it would going to Philly or to Brooklyn, but there would be a lot of young pieces around Harden that could be used in a second move in the subsequent offseason to bring a second top 10 guy next to Harden. The ceiling of this Bulls core is very difficult to pinpoint, but it’s hard not to see shades of the Lakers’ core before they signed lebron where as a group it’s hard to see them consistently winning games without a proven leader and top-10 guy in the nba.
For Houston it seems as though the market is either just a star level player and maybe a pick (Philly) and a lot of ancillary players and multiple picks (Brooklyn). For a player better than AD it is a frustrating and unenviable position for a front office to not be able to extrapolate the same value out of Harden, and I give them kudos for playing the trade offer patiently. However it’s on everyone’s mind that Harden wants out of Houston so they are on the clock to move him before he walks especially considering he turned down the extension he is currently eligible for. It’s lemonade-from-lemons time for the new Houston front office.
I’d like to hear other opinions or other potential destinations if anyone else has any other ideas or dark horse destinations for Harden.

Anyone ever buy the Bullets Playing Cards poker chips?

Anyone ever buy the Bullets Playing Cards poker chips?
I'm thinking of splashing a bit of cash on some nice poker chips and I've been looking at some Bullets Playing Cards poker chips. I think they have a really nice design/colour scheme and like that they have values on them. I only ever play home games with friends but I'd still like some attractive chips.
I've read mixed reviews about them so far from Amazon so I'm on the fence about them. Does anyone have any experience with these chips or maybe have suggestions for similar looking chips that aren't crazy expensive?
Budget is 150 euro max.

WSOP App - Playmoney Poker strategy and bankroll

Yes, they exist, the people that play poker with playmoney only. It’s just for entertainment and nothing bad can happen, but this also leads to an environment where the players don’t respect your raises and are just calling everything. Unless you play the 2-3 highest stakes/tables.
So it’s your turn to adapt and exploit the fish. For beginners it’s great to learn about the structure and „how it works“, but it has nothing to do with real cash games. Every 2/4 cent real money table plays more serious poker than the 90% of the WSOP Playtika players. I will explain where you find the 10%. That beeing said it’s a fun experience to get into the game but if you ever plan on playing for real cash and are a beginner, avoid this.
I am at 18 Billion chips now and would like to share some tipps and tricks on how to build a bankroll and „where“ and „how“ to play the WSOP „cashgames“.
1.) Learn to fold. Seriously. I got a pre-flop fold percentage of ~48 % and yes, that is super tight for WSOP App games. Whenever I check the profiles I usually find 10 % (lol) to 35% pre-flop fold statistics so the „Game“ for most players is less poker mathematics but watching flop action. Keep that in mind and expolit this.
2.) Hence my next advice, be patient. Act like are a glitch on the table that calls or raises accidentally. Wait for good hands . But don’t play like a robot that only plays KK and AA on the button. Calling with TJ or 89 as suited connectors out of position is not a bad idea because sometimes even the other players register that you are only in action with strong hands. Someone that folded 30 turns and only played his blinds and even folded SB here and there is suspicious when raising. Not every table has 9 clueless donks.
3.) Raise once in a while. Only calling Leads to the usual flop action where 7 of 10 players are still in the pot and you will be wrecked in the river so often. Forcing the loose players to pot size bets makes some of them hesitate and fold their 59 preflop that might catch the 9 and 9 on the Turn and River.
4.) Players that hit the flop even with the lowest pair won’t fold, and thats were you get your playmoney profit long term. Most of them refuse to surrender and even call pot size bets on the turn and river even if they are beat.
5.) The WSOP Playtika App always suggest you play the maximum possible buyin tables and ignores bankroll management. That is your responsibility.
I usually only play with 10-15% of my Bankroll, but I play with Auto Rebuy (that only will be an issue because playmoney has variance, too, and your well played all in flush might eventually lose on the river) and Auto Top Off. That means I always play with the maximum buyin/BB on that table to get paid when I hit the nuts and face another player that fuels a big pot.
It’s the worst feeling to win less because you could not maximize the pot bets.
6.) You remember the 10 % I mentioned that „somehow“ play more serious Poker? They exist, but you only find them in the last third of the High Stakes tables.
The Playmoney WSOP tables are structured like this with Stakes and Buy In Ranges:
Once you play at the 6M+ stakes tables you will face a different type of players: Many have levels of 200 and 300 and more which means they grinded fast and/or well. They play this game at least more than „casually“ and more focused and act slightly tighter. The pre flop percentage usually is above 40% so there are less limpers and calling stations. Be careful if you find 50% pre flop folders and <5% post flop raisers. They will have strong hands once they start betting and raising.
The most „serious“ playmoney poker gamers are in the last 2 tables, because the 3B table is an equivalent of ~ 90 Euro/Dollars and you won’t find casuals here that throw away real money. Players of the highest playmoney limits actually follow fundamental poker strategy and respect your behavior and raises. You will find players there with way better reads and you won’t find casual limpers that play for the action.
So the good news is, you CAN have a somewhat serious full ring poker action at the WSOP playmoney community. The bad news is you have to grind through the donk festivals of the first 8-9 limits and tables. It’s frustrating sometimes but be patient, fold often and make the calling stations pay with your sets.
Some additional thoughts: - ignore the Momentum - ignore the Slot Machine - a big friendlist is nice for many free chips here and there - ignore the obnoxious Piggy Bank
That’s it. Any other WSOP playmoney poker entertainment folks here?

Ego Casino Review - Bonus Codes, Free Spins & More

In today's review of Ego Casino, we'll be doing a thorough analysis of their most important features and see exactly why this casino has the potential to become one of the greatest. It is available in a couple of languages like English, German, Polish, Chinese and Russian, making it one of the most popular international online casinos on the m arket. Along with that, it is available in various currencies such as Euros, Polish zlotys, and Russian rubles, making it a popular casino amongst European and Russian players. It also needs to be said that US and UK players are restricted from using this casino.
Regardless of the country restrictions, there is a lot to research and review about this casino. In the past few months, it got on a good foot with new players thanks to a generous no deposit free spins offer. But, there is much more to review and uncover. So let's get this review started and find out what earned Ego Casino their review ratings so fast amongst the online gambling communities.

Ego Casino Sign-Up Bonus And Promos

We thought it would be a great way to start this review on a positive note, so we've decided to review the promos like no deposit free spins and reloads available at Ego Casino. Upon our review of their promo selection, we were quite impressed by their offer. Being a new online casino they have to be able to attract new members and no deposit free spins promotions and rewards are a great strategy. Let's have a look at some of the most sought-after rewards and their availability in this exciting casino.
>> Claim Free Spins Bonuses <<

No Deposit Bonus/Free Spins Bonus

One of the most requested bonus rewards amongst new players is the no deposit bonus. The no deposit bonus gives new players a chance to play some casino games right after they signup, no deposit needed. The no deposit bonus mainly includes free spins, but in some cases, the no deposit bonus might include free chips or cash instead of free spins. The purpose of the no deposit promo remains the same though - to promote games and offer players a chance to test the casino and review the game selection. Upon our review of the bonus section at Ego Casino, we've noted that they do not have an active any deposit bonus at this time.
If you are specifically looking for a no deposit promo like free spins or cash, make sure to wait a bit and review the casino's website. No deposit free spins promos become often available as a part of new promotions for new game releases.
However, we've also noted that in order to make up for their lack of a no deposit bonus, they offer a fairly generous welcome offer. Namely, the Ego Casino welcome promo is a 100% first deposit bonus for up to €500 and an additional 50 free spins, no bonus code required. Furthermore, there are three versions of this reward: Basic, Silver, and Gold. All of them differ in terms of how big of a deposit you make, resulting in a larger reward and more free spins. If you want to learn more about this and other promo rewards, head over to the Ego website and review it under the Promotions tab.

Cashback Bonus

Another promo that is popular amongst online casinos and their players is the cashback bonus. This promo gives players part of their wager back when they lose, giving them a fighting chance. Upon our review of the Promotions section at Ego Casino, we've noted that they do in fact have a cashback bonus. There are two types as well. The first one is called Weekly Cashback, where depending on your member status you either get 10-15% cashback which is calculated according to the deposits you've made. The cash is put back in your account every Sunday. The other one is called the Weekly 50% VIP Bonus. To activate it you'll need a bonus code which you can find on their website under the Promotions tab. There you can also learn more about this promo as it is thoroughly reviewed and explained in detail.

High Roller Bonus

The High Roller bonus is a promo that is reserved for a special group of casino members that like to spend big bucks. These are also known as VIP members and VIPs often receive special treatment in terms of additional rewards such as a higher cashback bonus, more free spins or even priority when it comes to withdrawing funds. Upon our review of EgoCasino, we've noted that they have a Loyalty Program, where depending on your level, you get extra benefits. You gain levels by collecting E-coins that can later be spent for other bonus rewards. If you want to learn more about the Ego Casino loyalty program head over to their website and review it under the Promotions tab.

Weekly Reload Bonus

The Weekly Reload bonus can be any kind of benefit that players can get a hold on during a specific day of the week. Upon our review of the available bonus rewards at Ego Casino, we've noted that they have a couple of interesting weekly offers. We've already mentioned the Weekly Cashback bonus in this review, but there are more offers.
For instance, Ego Casino offers a Morning Up Bonus and a Twilight Bonus. Both are active from Monday through Friday but during different time frames. The Morning promo is active from 4 am -8 am, while the Twilight Bonus is active between 12 AM-4 AM. They also differ in terms of feature, the Twilight promo offers 50% for up to €1,000, while the morning offers the same, plus additional 20 free spins. In addition to these Weekly offers, Ego includes a weekend promo called Upgraded Weekend. Here you'll be able to get a 40% deposit bonus for up to €500. Overall, Ego Casino is very generous when it comes to bonuses.

EGO Casino Games & Software Providers Available

We've mentioned in this review that Ego Casino can brag about having a large games library. We did a review of the game selection at Casino Ego and to be honest we were quite impressed. They include some of the most popular game categories like slot games, table games, sports betting, and even live games. The games at Ego Casino are provided a courtesy to world-renown software providers like Play'n GO, Microgaming, Quickspin, Big Time Gaming, Evolution Gaming and many more.

Slot Games

First of all, let's have a look at their slots selection. Ego Casino offers a wide range of slot games that meet the needs of every slots lover. Over here you can find classical 3-reel slots for those who love retro games, as well as modern slot games, with state of the art visual and graphics. The latter also includes cool in-game bonus features like wilds, free spins and scatter symbols. Upon our review, we've noted that some of their most popular titles include games like Book of Dead, Vikings Go Wild, Big Bad Wolf, and many more.
Live Dealer games are run in real-time via a live video stream by a real human dealer. Players can join the table and play against other players or against the dealer, depending on the game. Games that saw the biggest change for the better with this innovation are traditional casino games that could not have been imagined without a dealer in the first place. These include the likes of Roulette, Baccarat, Blackjack, and Poker. Upon our review of the games at Ego Casino, we've noted that they in fact include live dealer games and in the following part of this review, we're going to have a look at some of the available choices they have to offer.
Live Baccarat - Live Baccarat is amongst the many live games choices at Ego. Upon our review, we've noted that they include variants like the game Classical Baccarat, Dragon Tiger, and many more It has to be mentioned that there are betting limits in place, in order to accommodate players from different economic backgrounds.
Live Blackjack - Live Blackjack is another live game option at Ego Casino. Upon our review of the live games at this casino, we've noted that Blackjack is available in multiple variants, such as: Classical Blackjack, Common Draw Blackjack, Blitz Blackjack, and more. Naturally, there are various tables with different betting limits, in order to provide a fun experience for all players, regardless of their financial status.
Live Roulette - Live Roulette is probably the live game with the most choices at Ego. You can choose from variants like European or American Roulette, in addition to that, you can choose rooms with specific languages, such as Turkish, Russian, and German. It goes without saying that there are betting limits here as well in order to provide a fair gambling experience for all players, regardless of their pocket size.
Other Table Games - There are other table game choices available too, with the most popular being Poker. Upon our review, we've noted that they include variants like 3 Card Stud and Hold'Em. There are betting limits in place here as well, so you can expect High Roller and Low Roller tables.

Compatibility: Desktop & Ego Casino's Mobile Casino App

Since there are a lot of different devices on the market today, it is extremely important for an online casino to be compatible with all of them in order to be accessible to more users. Upon our review of Ego, we've learned that they are a mobile-friendly site, compatible with all devices, including PC, tablet, and mobile as well as operating systems such as iOS and Android.
The Ego Casino games are available in instant play, which means that you won't need to download any additional app or software. All you got to do is use your device and open the browser to access the casino. The experience quality remains the same regardless of what device you use.

Top Security Protocols & Customer Service at Ego Casino

When it comes to security Ego Casino are doing a pretty good job. Even though they are a new and not so experience casino, their security isprotocols are pretty tight. Upon our review of Ego and their security measures, we've noted that they are using high-level SSL encryption in order to protect their players' transactions and their data from harm. It has to be mentioned that Ego Casino is licensed and falls under the regulations of Curacao.
As far as customer support goes, Ego Casino is doing the most that they can in order to be available to their players. Their website includes a 24/7 live chat where English and Russian speaking players can ask for help. In addition to that, there is a support e-mail and a phone number if there is a need for any further assistance.

Ego Casino Complaints Reviewed

Closely tied to the customer care is the willingness of a casino to review and resolve complaints filed against them. At the time of writing this review, we weren't able to find a single complaint filed against this casino. To be fair, it is a new casino and it will take time to see how they handle themselves in the long run.

Is it legal to own an unlicensed betting/gambling company if the bets are not in USD?

In the US where I am, gambling businesses are illegal unless you get licensed by the government and these licenses are very expensive, I think I read it is $10,000 just to submit an application. Here it says a PA (I live in Pennsylvania) sportsbook license is $10 million... and if your company offers other forms of betting -- namely slots, poker, table games -- there is an additional $10 million license. I have also read, though, that it is legal to have an unlicensed betting company if (and only if) the bets are placed in Bitcoin or some other virtual currency.
So, my question is: is it legal to start an unlicensed gambling operation if the bets, right before they are placed, are converted into Bitcoin or the customers' virtual currency of choice (... or gold, silver, diamonds, stocks, bonds, Euros, or any other non-USD storage of value for that matter, maybe even poker chips that can be redeemed for USD)? So, say a customer wants to bet $10 on the Eagles game; (1) he will choose to place this bet, (2) the computer (and/or an in-person employee) will quickly convert the $10 to $10 worth of Bitcoin (or gold, etc.), (3) and the $10 worth of Bitcoin will be submitted as a bet on the Eagles game. (4) Payouts will be paid in Bitcoin (and the company can convert Bitcoin into cash then if the customers choose). Is this legal to do?
Thanks in advance for any help!

MAME 0.223

MAME 0.223

MAME 0.223 has finally arrived, and what a release it is – there’s definitely something for everyone! Starting with some of the more esoteric additions, Linus Åkesson’s AVR-based hardware chiptune project and Power Ninja Action Challenge demos are now supported. These demos use minimal hardware to generate sound and/or video, relying on precise CPU timings to work. With this release, every hand-held LCD game from Nintendo’s Game & Watch and related lines is supported in MAME, with Donkey Kong Hockey bringing up the rear. Also of note is the Bassmate Computer fishing aid, made by Nintendo and marketed by Telko and other companies, which is clearly based on the dual-screen Game & Watch design. The steady stream of TV games hasn’t stopped, with a number of French releases from Conny/VideoJet among this month’s batch.
For the first time ever, games running on the Barcrest MPU4 video system are emulated well enough to be playable. Titles that are now working include several games based on the popular British TV game show The Crystal Maze, Adders and Ladders, The Mating Game, and Prize Tetris. In a clear win for MAME’s modular architecture, the breakthrough came through the discovery of a significant flaw in our Motorola MC6840 Programmable Timer Module emulation that was causing issues for the Fairlight CMI IIx synthesiser. In the same manner, the Busicom 141-PF desk calculator is now working, thanks to improvements made to Intel 4004 CPU emulation that came out of emulating the INTELLEC 4 development system and the prototype 4004-based controller board for Flicker pinball. The Busicom 141-PF is historically significant, being the first application of Intel’s first microprocessor.
Fans of classic vector arcade games are in for a treat this month. Former project coordinator Aaron Giles has contributed netlist-based sound emulation for thirteen Cinematronics vector games: Space War, Barrier, Star Hawk, Speed Freak, Star Castle, War of the Worlds, Sundance, Tail Gunner, Rip Off, Armor Attack, Warrior, Solar Quest and Boxing Bugs. This resolves long-standing issues with the previous simulation based on playing recorded samples. Colin Howell has also refined the sound emulation for Midway’s 280-ZZZAP and Gun Fight.
V.Smile joystick inputs are now working for all dumped cartridges, and with fixes for ROM bank selection the V.Smile Motion software is also usable. The accelerometer-based V.Smile Motion controller is not emulated, but the software can all be used with the standard V.Smile joystick controller. Another pair of systems with inputs that now work is the original Macintosh (128K/512K/512Ke) and Macintosh Plus. These systems’ keyboards are now fully emulated, including the separate numeric keypad available for the original Macintosh, the Macintosh Plus keyboard with integrated numeric keypad, and a few European ISO layout keyboards for the original Macintosh. There are still some emulation issues, but you can play Beyond Dark Castle with MAME’s Macintosh Plus emulation again.
In other home computer emulation news, MAME’s SAM Coupé driver now supports a number of peripherals that connect to the rear expansion port, a software list containing IRIX hard disk installations for SGI MIPS workstations has been added, and tape loading now works for the Specialist system (a DIY computer designed in the USSR).
Of course, there’s far more to enjoy, and you can read all about it in the whatsnew.txt file, or get the source and 64-bit Windows binary packages from the download page. (For brevity, promoted V.Smile software list entries and new Barcrest MPU4 clones made up from existing dumps have been omitted here.)

The Villains
Some names/nationalities/character description have been changed because of privacy
Clicki finished 5th in the tourney for 180k$, he was familiar with winning these amounts and was gutted after being coolered brutally. An absolutely amazing score and run for a 888$ dollar buy-in tournament nonetheless. In the meantime Gary received his hospital bill, I think it was around 2300$. His insurance magically covered all the expenses and his parents never found out. He tells me he’s going to take it easy for this summer, as he did take several loans to finance his trip to Vegas. He even applied for a loan at the local bank beforehand, you can imagine that did not come through. However Gary wouldn’t be Gary if he wasn’t talking about other opportunities that would come in the (near) future. ‘’I think I first should play an EPT main event in order to gain some experience for the WSOP main event. I’m not gonna bother with small tourneys anymore’’. I always love it when Gary talks about high buy in tournaments while his tank is at 0, call it ambition.
I figured that by renting out my place I could travel a bit through Europe.
As a result of that I found myself with my friend Rien in Bratislava later that summer.
After a good start on the first day I’m off the next one, I’m sitting down in a cash game and there seems to be a seat reserved. At the reserved place there is already 2k euro in chips, this is always a good sign. Usually well known local players seem to do this and they aren't the best players, often semi shady types that wanna show the table they have money and the authority to reserve a seat while everyone is already playing.
Around one hour later the exact type that I expected shows up, it’s the type you’d see walking on the street and you would know; he probably doesn’t work for the government so to say.
His name didn’t really surprised me either: Boris
Because of his overly aggressive play I know to win a 500 euro pot of him and he immediately doesn’t like me that much. He’s talking a bit of shit to me in Slovakian but I think it wasn’t too bad. I just won a nice pot of him so I wasn't too bothered with it anyways.
It’s just one of those many characters you come across in poker.
This brings me back to the story of another classic Villain story out of Dublin. I never got his name but he turned out to be some kind of Polish drug dealer.
After playing a small tournament in Dublin, an acquaintance of mine is playing in a 4 card poker game. I’m having a look at his table and one guy immediately stands out.
He’s wearing a nice suit, a typical Louis Vuitton handbag across his shoulder, sunglasses of a designer brand, you get the picture. He’s leaning back in his chair and on his left is a table full of cocktails, probably around 6 different drinks. He has a massive stack in front of him of around 4000 euro (blinds are 1/2).On his right is a woman who’s with him, whenever it’s his turn he just says POT, instructing the dealer next to him to count the pot and that would be exactly what he would bet without even taking a glimpse at his cards. After this ritual, that occurred every single hand, the woman next to him would show him his cards.
Although 4 card poker isn’t really my game, a game with a guy who isn’t even watching his cards before making full pot bets should be beatable.
I decide to sit down and every pot is big because he’s in every pot. At one moment I’m observing him and expertly he moves a chip with an unknown substance to his nose, while sitting on the table with nine other people. Jesus, this guy must be more crazy than I could imagine, sniffing cocaine (?) in public.
The dealer, an older woman, also noticed what happened and was looking in shock yet did not make a fuss about it.
One player in particular, got really unlucky in multiple pots against him.
After a while the player, with either Indian or Turkish roots, starts complaining a bit.
The Polish cocaine sniffer promptly replies with: ‘Shut up Durum Kebab’
I thought this comment was out of order yet incredibly funny and really had to make an effort not to burst out laughing.
The floosupervisor was called to check what’s going on and of course he was the first one to describe the situation. ‘Durum Kebab is complaining about a 2k pot he lost, you know how much I lost last month? 60k!’
The attendance of a supervisor didn’t hold him back from telling the other player that he should shut up or he would sleep for a long time.
I would come across this same exact person roughly 28 hours later. It’s around 3:30 am as I’ve been listening to an arguing drunk guy in the room next to me long enough to start complaining about it at the reception.
Once I arrive at the reception there’s a couple in front of me. Probably the most beautiful woman you’ve ever seen and the Polish guy. He’s wearing a Rolex and I can clearly see a Cross tattooed in his hand palm.
This was definitely another woman than he was with the night before, I wasn’t surprised about that. The first thing I hear him saying is: ‘I want the presidential suite’
That’s not available sir. ‘Not available!? When is it available? I need the best room you have’
Followed by: ‘I wanna top up my credit’
My best guess was he was putting on a little bit of a show to impress the beautiful woman who was with him.
After receiving the best room available he made clear that the employee shouldn’t mention his stay to anyone because he knew what would happen if he talked. Basically I heard this guy make two death threads within 28 hours and get away with it. I was curious to know the story behind this guy and when I asked Greg, the security I had known for years. His answer was distinctly: He is well known for being deep in ‘the business’.
Fun fact about Dublin: There are no drinks ordered after 12 (?) on Sundays. I was surprised and pointed out that the hotel that hosted the event missed out on a lot of revenue. The owner looked into a room with 60 people, ''You see those people? If we keep serving them, 70% won't show up at work tomorrow. It's government instructions.'' You've got to love the Irish.

MAME 0.223

Freedom of life in Europe and Western countries is not for everyone (Refugee Perspective)

It's going to be a somewhat of a long story (Yeah no a long one) tl:dr at the bottom.
To set the stage. I'm an ex-muslim (been like that since 14) refugee from an Arabic country and I came to Europe as an Erasmus student from Turkey (Exchange program) and eventually settled there. Been living here for 5+ years and I consider myself blessed, and humbled for all the good things and good people that helped me get to where I'm.
The same life I wanted for my best friend who's still stuck back there. He's a smart guy with a good sense of humor and quite honestly I thought he would be doing the best after we finish with College. I wanted him to get out of there as we're both are ex-muslims and he can live his life normally and productively (No need to apologise for piercings, hide tattoos, meet girls in hush hush places, and fear that one wrong move will anger the government or some religious fellow).
So I told him let's get you accepted at a university here. I discussed with him and set on a plan. I payed for his IELTS test, I gave him a gaming laptop, and always was there financially for him. Either to get him games or something. Safe to say we were close. I wanted him to feel like he won't miss out on stuff while I'm in Europe and he's stuck there.
Fast-forward a year and he's accepted ! Me and my fiancee chip-in (40%) for the costs of getting him here and his family and family's friends get him the bulk of it. 21k Euro which is not a crazy amount for European standards but it's a goddamn fortune for where we come from.
So he comes here with the idea that he can be refugee based on religious prosecution. I host him for a few days and arrange a room for him, and he seems to be doing ok but a bit by bit he unravels. First he quits his online job (doesn't tell us) and then starts spending the money he got back from the University. He buys expensive stuff (VR headset, expensive clothing) and just becomes lazy. Our other friend comes over and they spend their days drinking and smoking weed.
I thought fine. He never lived his life back there. He's blowing off steam. Then I arrange for him a job at my company. I keep the job opening for him and I tell him finish : this 20h tutorial and you'll be alright for the job. I can help you.
He doesn't do it but at least he gets his permit and for some reason tries to weasel his way into social security, by refusing to work menial jobs or studying and whenever he comes over to talk. I cannot talk to him about serious life stuff because he gets an anxiety attack.
Then a few month pass and he disappears but then comes back with a girlfriend and he doesn't say anything about her (for a good reason, just you wait) and I had it with him.
I bring him over and tell him you're going to be more open and get your shit together and he's like : 'ok' and uses his anxiety as a way to escape even a simple question like : hey what you been up to ? All the meanwhile he spent every Euro from that loan.
Then I meet this mystery girl at her home and my lord. She's a junkie. Smokes every day and does hard drugs and into S&M parties and worst case ? With minors. They were openly talking and laughing about getting a 15 year old girl drunk and then playing strip poker with here. Did I mention that both her and my friend are 30+ !? They go out every few days and invite minors and other people to some part of the woods to do some hardcore crap.
She treats him like he's some injured peter pan. Everything is fine if don't take responsibility or take control of your life. He even argues with me that he's not living a hedonistic lifestyle.
Yeah. I ended my friendship with him and finally realized that I've done a mistake. The biggest mistake of my life and his life.
Tl:dr friend comes over from a crappy country to Europe, ends up being a failure here with a huge debt and gets involved with drugs and sex parties.
Don't think freedom is a blessing. Some people can't handle it and as the Red Queen says : 'In my world you've got to keep running to stand still' and such is life here in Europe if you want to make something out of yourself. It's not that easy friends,if you're an Arab here or an African you will face racism that is veiled, which is the most difficult to handle and if you pass it and get somewhere, there are many temptations and it doesn't take a lot to ruin a life.

[COMC] First year in.

I think there’s something special about seeing all those different board game collections and realizing that there are a bunch of people out there who you will never meet that share your love for this activity of playing with these different pieces of cardboard, wood and plastic.
So I wanted to take part in this COMC thing and share with you our collection.
I also like the idea of doing this annually to see how the collection, as well as my thoughts and preferences, evolve over the years.
My collection
Collection on BGG
Games/Expansions not shown.

How long have you been involved in the hobby?
A little more than a year ago a co-worker of mine enthusiastically told me about this board game where you got to work with the other players, chucking dice to fight monsters across the globe, gathering items and increase your powers to be able to solve mysteries and prevent the awakening of an unimaginable entity that would doom the world.
So naturally this piqued my interest and I started looking for more information on this strange thing.
Then, a few weeks later and exactly one year ago, I was in Glasgow, Scotland for a darts tournament with my father and two brothers and stumbled upon a geekshop which, of course, had this big purple cardboard box with a man on top of a train with a tommy-gun shooting at some huge tenticles. I took Eldritch Horror of the shelf, grabbed Munchkin and Disney Codenames on my way to the cashier and bought them all.
Thus began the typical period of spending too much money too quickly with no real clue on my real taste in games. I tried to look at many top lists and did a light research on the games I bought but I really just wanted to have a variety to pick from. I discovered BGG and started spending most of my freetime watching gameplay videos reviews.
Fortunately my SO likes to play many games with me all the time and is willing to at least try most of those that don’t immediately tickle her fancy. But she leans a little bit to the Euro-side in preference, which is more than fine by me!
TL;DR: Bought Eldritch Horror exactly one year ago. Acquired too much too frequently. SO likes to play.

What would you change about your collection if you could?
Overall, I'm quite happy with my current collection. I have made very few bad mistakes in my purchases so I count myself kinda lucky in that regard. I would really like to add some more heavy-ish thematic games. Currently, War of the Ring is on the top of my wishlist. Also I'd like a meatier game that supports a big group of players that isn't long and is mainly just fooling around. Have looked at Cosmic Encounter but I honestly can't help but feel like it could have better looking components? Idno..
TL;DR: Sell a few mistake-purchases. Obtain heavier, large-group games.

Favorite games.
Mine:
  1. Twilight Imperium 4th Edition
  2. Brass: Birmingham
  3. Star Wars Rebellion
  4. Spirit Island
  5. On Mars
  6. Underwater Cities
  7. Blood Rage
  8. Concordia
  9. Clans of Caledonia
  10. Terraforming Mars
Girlfriend’s:
  1. Brass: Birmingham
  2. Concordia
  3. Orléans
  4. Underwater Cities
  5. Castles of Burgundy (2019)
  6. The Voyages of Marco Polo
  7. 7 Wonders Duel
  8. Clans of Caledonia
  9. Azul
  10. Pandemic

Newest games
Finally received On Mars a few weeks ago and I'm really happy with how it turned out in my first playthrough.
Other recent acquisitions include Castles of Burgundy (2019 edition), Orléans, Marvel Champions, Res Arcana, Alchemists, Arboretum, Just One and Underwater Cities.

Games that will be added in the near future.
Awaiting kickstarter fulfillment:
Otherwise I am now at a point where I don't want to add many more games to our collection for the next months. I'd like to at least try all our games and play our favorites more. Then I would like to get rid of those we have no desire to play anymore.

Shelf of shame.

Prized possessions.
Grandiose Kickstarter games like On Mars and Tainted Grail are kinda cool to have on our shelf.I also love our Brass: Birmingham copy with the Iron Clay poker chips and beautiful box.
Last summer we looked everywhere for Hive Pocket and finally found it in a board game store in Copenhagen, Denmark. That little, ugly, orange pouch brings back so many memories of the many places me and my SO have played it in.
I also made a foamcore insert for Spirit Island and the Branch and Claw expansion which actually turned out great for a first try at a foamcore project!
I haven't played Eldritch Horror for almost a year now but I can't see myself getting rid of it as it is the game that sparked my interest in this hobby.
I also really just like my Kallax shelf and re-organizing and pimping it out regularly. Idno... I just kinda like looking at it. Is that weird? 🥴

Games that might be leaving our collection soon.
Munchkin
- Would be open to play it for the lulz. But otherwise - no interest at all.
Epic Spell Wars of the Battle Wizards: Duel at Mt. Skullzfyre
- Wil Wheaton's Tabletop was 98.6% of the reason I bought this few weeks into the hobby. Have no interest in trying it now.
Detective: A Modern Crime Board Game
- Finished the first case and it’s fine but I can't seem to see myself playing this over most other games I have.

Final thoughts.
Love this hobby. Love this community.
Would love to see more eyes being opened to it and all the possibilities for social interaction.
I would also like to see some non-sedentary solutions be implemented into board gaming tables. Something like height-adjustable board game tables or maybe something like the product I saw on Kickstarter the other day where you could raise the play area higher up with some puzzlepieces and sticks.

I realize it’s a long wall of text but you don’t have to read it.
But if you did - thanks a bunch and happy gaming.

Searching for tool to settle cash games

I am searching for a tool that helps calculate how much each player owes each other. We basically play poker with unlimited buyins for (example) 10 euro in chips. Once we don’t feel like playing anymore, we write down everyone’s balance. For example:
Player A: +10,75 Player B: -5,75 Player C: -7 Player D: +2
After a couple days of playing, it’s quite an hassle to calculate how much everybody owes each other, with a lot of these balance sheets.
My question is: is there a tool that can help with this?
Thanks in advance!
Edit: I know, basic math. We're lazy. I was just wondering if there's a better way.
